Gretchen Hilmers was born in Washington D.C. and spent most of her life in and around the city. After graduating from George Mason University, with a concentration in photography, she spent the next year creating a new body of work based on more traditional mediums. In February 2004 she moved to the west coast and now resides in Los Angeles, California.
